Babes Leagues Aparts
Three shows. Anstruther, Edinburgh, Glasgow. Only three shows together before Gerard was swept back across la Manche to his life of exotic names and liquers. It doesn’t really seem enough, or fair. The version of Babe that Gerard constructed for these shows was exceptional, not least in its variety. It’s difficult to imagine such a group being born into existence without the guiding hand of the Babe Overlord.
What happens now is a little up in the air. The question most consistently asked over the course of the last week was “what do you do now?” The possibility of a continuation of the fleeting status quo seems, understandably, rather unlikely. But to doubt is to ignore the zeal that brought us together in the first place, took us out to France, and over the course of only six short shows has seen us support Everything Everything, Anna Calvi and Francois & the Atlas Mountains. We are all now believers in The Power of The Babe, and if you’re not you’re either a moron or a dusty, fastidious old goon.
Gigs will, mostly likely, be somewhat scant over the summer months but it’s a non sequitur to suppose that we’re not busying ourselves extremely dilligently. Be prepared for the awesome, terrifying onslaught comin atcha this FALL.
